Runway Pista A defined rectangular area on a land aerodrome prepared for the landing and take-off of aircraft.
Taxiway Calle de rodaje A defined path on a land aerodrome established for the taxiing of aircraft.
Apron Plataforma A defined area on a land aerodrome intended to accommodate aircraft for purposes of loading or unloading passengers, mail or cargo, fuelling, parking or maintenance.
Holding point Punto de espera A designated position (runway-holding position or intermediate holding position) at which taxiing aircraft and vehicles shall stop and hold unless otherwise authorized by the aerodrome control tower.
Threshold Umbral de pista The beginning of that portion of the runway usable for landing.
Displaced threshold Umbral desplazado A threshold not located at the extremity of a runway.
Stopway Zona de parada A defined rectangular area on the ground at the end of take-off run available prepared as a suitable area in which an aircraft can be stopped in the case of an abandoned take-off.
Clearway Zona libre de obstáculos A defined rectangular area on the ground or water at the end of a runway, selected or prepared as a suitable area over which an aircraft may make a portion of its initial climb.
PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicator) PAPI (Indicador de trayectoria de aproximación de precisión) A visual aid that provides guidance information to help a pilot acquire and maintain the correct approach.
Touchdown zone Zona de toma de contacto The portion of a runway, beyond the threshold, where it is intended landing aircraft first contact the runway.
Runway End Safety Area (RESA) Área de Seguridad de Final de Pista (RESA) An area symmetrical about the extended runway centre line and adjacent to the end of the strip primarily intended to reduce the risk of damage to an airplane undershooting or overrunning the runway.
Gate Puerta de embarque A location at an airport terminal where passengers board or leave an aircraft.
Stand Puesto de estacionamiento A designated area on an apron intended to be used for parking an aircraft.
Runway incursion Incursión en pista Any occurrence at an aerodrome involving the incorrect presence of an aircraft, vehicle or person on the protected area of a surface designated for the landing and take off of aircraft.
Aerodrome elevation Elevación del aeródromo The elevation of the highest point of the landing area.
TORA (Take-off Run Available) TORA (Recorrido de despegue disponible) The length of runway declared available and suitable for the ground run of an aeroplane taking off.
LDA (Landing Distance Available) LDA (Distancia de aterrizaje disponible) The length of runway which is declared available and suitable for the ground run of an aeroplane landing.
Taxiing Rodaje Movement of an aircraft on the surface of an aerodrome under its own power, excluding take-off and landing.
Low visibility procedures (LVP) Procedimientos de baja visibilidad (LVP) Procedures applied at an aerodrome for the purpose of ensuring safe operations during Lower than Standard Category I, Other than Standard Category II, Category II and III approaches and low visibility take-offs.
Pushback Retroceso remolcado (push-back) An airport procedure during which an aircraft is pushed backwards away from an airport gate by external power.
Manoeuvring area Área de maniobras That part of an aerodrome used for take-off, landing and taxiing of aircraft, excluding aprons.
Movement area Área de movimiento That part of an aerodrome used for take-off, landing and taxiing of aircraft, consisting of the manoeuvring area and the apron(s).
Rapid exit taxiway (RET) Calle de salida rápida (RET) A taxiway connected to a runway at an acute angle, designed to allow landing aeroplanes to turn off at higher speeds and minimize runway occupancy time.
Stop bar Barra de parada A row of unidirectional red lights across a taxiway at a runway-holding position. Aircraft must never cross a lit stop bar, even if cleared.
Backtrack Recorrer la pista en sentido contrario (backtrack) To taxi on the runway in the direction opposite to that of take-off or landing. Common at aerodromes without a full-length parallel taxiway.
Runway in use Pista en servicio The runway(s) selected by ATC as most suitable at a given time for take-offs and/or landings, normally the one most nearly aligned with the surface wind.
Runway excursion Salida de pista An event in which an aircraft veers off or overruns the runway surface during take-off or landing.
Runway condition code (RWYCC) Código de estado de la pista (RWYCC) A number from 0 to 6 describing the runway surface condition for each third of the runway, part of the ICAO Global Reporting Format (GRF) runway condition report.

Preguntas frecuentes
